The most beautiful and toughest swimmingmarathon of the Netherlands
A swimmingmarathon which exists already for more than fifty years! In 2019 this tough openwater swimmingcompetition over 22 kilometers from Stavoren to Medemblik celebrated her fiftieth birthday.
Meanwhile a new organizaton team has taken over and started working on a marathon “new style”. The ambition is to bring this classic to a higher level and in time join the FINA ultramarathon circuit. The competion will be faster and more spectacular for swimmers and audience.
In 2021 the competition will take place on saturday September 11th
The start will take place at 10:00 o’clock in the harbour of Stavoren. Arrival and finish in the harbour of Medemblik is expected from 14:15 pm.
In the “old normal” swimmers will swim the last hunderds meters under loud encouragments and applause from the audience.
The IJsselmeer Swimmingmarathon
The IJsselmeer swimmingmarathon starts at 10:00 am in the harbour for a swimming race of 22 kilometers.
Participants can swim in a group or when they are swimming solo, accompanied by a boat with their coach. Safety first!
The last meters you will swim in the harbour of Medemblik, where the finish is located in front of the old fish auction.
Swimming club DES is rightly proud to organize the oldest and longest open water competition in teh Netherlands.
The IJsselmeer swimmingmarathon is a beautiful race between Stavoren and Medemblik over 22 kilometers and to be accounted as one of the heaviest in the world.
Due to the measures to prevent spreading of the Cocid-19 virus we urge all visitors not to come to Medemblik and Stavoren.
